What is Reiki?

Updated: Apr 3

Reiki is an energy healing practice that originated in Japan. Reiki is a form of energy healing that uses the power of touch to balance the energy fields in the body. The word "Reiki" is a combination of two Japanese words - "rei" which means "universal" and "ki" which means "life force energy". As Reiki practitioners we believe that everyone has a life force energy flowing through them, and that when this energy is blocked, it can cause physical, emotional and mental imbalances. Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel this energy and help restore balance to the body. Reiki is gaining popularity as many people see positive effects on their physical and emotional well-being. Reiki is considered as a complementary therapy to traditional medicine and starts to be used in hospitals more and more.

History and Origins of Reiki

The origins of Reiki come from Japan with a man named Mikao Usui developed the practice in the early 1900s. Usui was a spiritual seeker who spent years studying various healing methods before discovering Reiki. The practice spread then to other parts of the world, with many practitioners adding their own unique twists to the technique. Today, Reiki is recognized as a legitimate form of therapy by many healthcare professionals and is used to treat a variety of physical and emotional conditions.

Principles of Reiki

At the core of the spiritual practice that is Reiki and Reiki healing lies five fundamental principles that serve as a guide for its practitioners. The first principle of Reiki healing is to focus on the present moment. This means letting go of past experiences and future worries, and being fully present in the current moment. The second principle is to let go of anger and worry, as these negative emotions can block the flow of energy in the body. The third principle is to show gratitude, as gratitude is a powerful force that can attract positive energy. The fourth principle is to work hard and be honest, as hard work and honesty are essential for personal growth and development. The final principle is to be compassionate towards oneself and others, as compassion is the key to healing and transformation.
